Review
This Mooc offered by NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning – India) is currently the only free Mooc about technical aircraft engine maintenance. The strength of this course is the detailed explanation of how piston engines work and what you have to consider for maintenance of aircraft engines. A chapter about jet engines concludes the course. The course design, mainly based on lecture of video slides is somewhat different of European or American Moocs : it doesn’t allow a lot of interactions and visual and sound quality could be improved. What I appreciated most about this course were several Lab session videos, where the instructor disassembled real aircraft engines for maintenance and also illustrated eventual risks of engine failures due to fatigue, pre-ignition or bad assembling. This Lab session videos completed perfectly the theoretical explanations. Apart some exceptions, the NPTEL course team answered promptly to questions of the participants on the discussion forum. Personal average score of the 8 assignments was 97%.

The course is comprised of two modules over a two-week period, consisting of several pre-recorded presentations, coupled with interactive discussion boards, supporting links and videos, and faculty and subject matter experts responding to attendees questions/comments.
Content:
Module 1 :
Module 2 :
There is no prerequisite knowledge related to this course apart from basic to intermediate computer literacy. To be successful in this course, you should plan to spend approximately 3 to 5 hours a week working on each module. For me, sUAS was a new topic. So, I enjoyed especially the basic information and interesting / amazing video links in module 1. Module 2 is more about the US National Airspace System, a subject, that I’d already studied in the Aviation Mooc of ERAU
For those of you pursuing the Record of Attendance, the following requirements must be met:
At the end of the course, upon successful completion of the aforementioned requirements for both modules, you will be given access to the MOOC Completion Form, in which you will enter your name as you would like it to appear on your certificate as well as the email address to which you would like us to send your certificate. Note: Your Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) – Key Concepts for New Users MOOC Record of Attendance will be sent to you via email within 30 days after the end of the course.

(self-paced, in American-English, duration about 12 h, platform canvas.net)
Thrust, drag, weight, lift, this very interesting and well designed course is likely to introduce you to a variety of subjects pertaining to the aviation industry. It will teach you a lot of the ground knowledge that you need to know to be a successful pilot and might improve your Aviation-English.
Content:
This course contains an introduction, followed by nine lessons and three multiple choice tests. The course is split into three parts. In each part, there will be three lessons, followed by a test. The material in each lesson will be presented in video format. You can download the video transcription.
At the completion of each lesson, you will have a multiple choice quiz. Each quiz (15 questions, maximum 30 minutes) and test (30 questions, maximum 1 hour) will be graded automatically and a minimum score of 80% is required to move on to the next lesson. So, it’s a kind of “light” version of the PPL(A) and achievement conditions are similar, but the number of attempts is unlimited. Each lesson should take about an hour to complete, more or less.
Duration of this self-paced Mooc doesn’t seem to be limited. Nevertheless I suggest to achieve the three lessons of each part in a short time, as the test is about the three lessons. I think you should achieve the whole course in about six weeks, or less. You may submit questions on the discussion forum, but there are not many students enrolled at the same time and the forum is often cleaned and updated.
If you’ve achieved successfully all quizzes and tests, you can download a social badge of achievement.
My personal over-all score was 95% (one single attempt for each quiz/test).
